Welcome to the Hornets' Nest

Welcome to Harper Elementary School’s website. Harper is a K-5 school with approximately 470 excited boys and girls located at 21 S. Alvord Blvd. in Evansville, IN.

Harper was built in 1950 and had the largest playground in the city with many after school programs.

Harper is a part of the BEST (Bosse Exemplary School Team) District. Our students move on to Washington Middle School and Bosse High School.  The other schools in the Bosse District are Culver, Dexter, Glenwood, and Lodge.

High expectations are set for all students both academically and behaviorally. Our Gifted and Talented students are clustered within the classroom and we strive to move every student forward. We believe that every child is capable of learning and we work to ensure that all students are successful. We use FOSS science which is a hands on approach to Science and our students have continuously done well with it.

Parents and community partners enhance the learning of our students by the many activities they provide for our students. Our PTA (Parent Teacher Association) works with the faculty to provide additional opportunities for each of our classrooms by providing funds for each of our classrooms. They also coordinate community projects such as the collection of pop tabs for the Evansville Ronald McDonald House and having a Family Night with admission being a pair of new socks for the Area Council PTA Clothing Bank. Our parents provide numerous hours of work for our students by popping popcorn, having our Santa Shop, assisting with our Family Nights, and helping in any other areas that we need.

Community partners provide afterschool activities for our students. The University of Evansville Theatre students provide a Theatre Club, our Bosse district basketball program continues to grow, and we added a Bosse district football camp this year. The Girl Scouts program began last year and we had about 60 girls participate in that program. The Boy Scouts meet in other locations, but we’re supportive of their program also. Students from the University of Southern Indiana started French and German Clubs for our fourth grade students last year and they’ll continue with those same students during their fifth grade.

Our focus at Harper is on student achievement. We work to take students to “higher heights”.
