Response to Intervention Model (RtI)
Response to Intervention Model (RtI) and Positive Behavioral Intervention and Supports (PBIS) are used in the Evansville Vanderburgh School Corporation to remove obstacles to student success.
Response to Intervention is not a program, but a standard operating procedure regarding the way the EVSC educates its students, both academically and behaviorally. RtI is a combination of instruction, assessment, and interventions, or extra help, to assist students with their success in the school environment. Screenings of ALL students in the corporation are done, and determination is made about which students may need extra help to improve their success rate or for those students already achieving at a high rate -- to achieve even more.
Student progress is routinely monitored, and resarch-based and proven interventions are used to help students.
While RtI is centered around academic supports, Positive Behavioral Intervention and Supports (PBIS) is a way to manage school behavior to create a positive, nurturing environment. PBIS thoroughly outlines behavior expectations for students, then rewards them for following those expectations.
Both RtI and PBIS are designed to remove obstacles to student success and assist students on their journey toward graduation.
