Special Education
Evansville is one of the largest special education districts in the State of Indiana. The EVSC employs more than 400 staff to provide quality services to more than 4,700 early childhood, public school and private school students receiving some level of special education support.
The Evansville Vanderburgh School Corporation provides special education and related services to all students with disabilities. A comprehensive program of services designed to meet a broad range of educational needs is provided. Special education and related services are available in all public school buildings. More specialized classroom programs, however, may be offered in designated locations. But to the maximum extent appropriate, the Evansville Vanderburgh School Corporation is committed to providing services in the child’s home school in a classroom he/she would attend if not disabled.
Special education and related services are available to all individuals living within Vanderburgh County between the ages of 3 and 21. Services to students are provided at no cost to the student. Services are offered to individuals based on a process that begins with a referral and proceeds through evaluation, eligibility determination, a case conference recommendation for services, and a parental consent.
