A program in the EVSC which is well established and has been successfully engaging students since its inception in 2006, is the Southern Indiana Career and Technical Center. SICTC is now enrolling for 2013-14. See link to application below.
Serving approximately 700 students from Vanderburgh, Warrick, Posey, North and South Gibson, and the southern half of Spencer counties, the Career Center offers 20 courses of study in 10 different career clusters. All of the programs prepare students for high skill, high wage, or high demand careers including 35 of the Hoosier Hot 50 jobs.
The Career Center is identified by the National Research Center for Career and Technical Education as one of the top five secondary career centers in the United States. The graduation rate for students who attend SICTC was 95% for the 2010-11 school year. Students may also receive dual credit for 63 different college courses at six different colleges and universities.
Courses include: advanced manufacturing, agricultural education and veterinary science, computer network technology (CISCO), building trades technology, culinary arts, Project Lead the Way engineering, graphic communication/digital media technology, health sciences, public safety/law enforcement/fire safety, telecommunication, and transportation technology.
In a follow-up study in 2010, it was determined that 65% of students who had taken classes at SICTC continue their education with a post-secondary educational experience 15 months after graduation and 33% of the students who are employed, entered occupations related to their training at the school.
